Low power video capture

My wee laptop is 600 MHZ, 320 mb of ram. going old school is there any software which i can grab footage from my mini DV camera that is not going to crash it ?

not planning to do any editing, just want to save my tape heads on the camera.

you could take a look at virtualdub:

if not, sony's Vegas Video includes a separate firewire capture applet IIRC
